The Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (SEEM) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong offers world-class educational and research programs focused on information systems, operations research, optimization and quantitative decision making technologies, and their applications in engineering management, financial engineering and logistics and supply chain management. Established in 1991 as the first of its kind in tertiary educational institutions in Hong Kong, the department carries a mission to create and disseminate knowledge and technologies fundamental for the globalized economy - to derive and develop intelligence from information, to design and engineer systems, and to analyze and optimize financial and operational decisions.

The department has an active, energetic and dynamic team of faculty researchers of high caliber and considerable strengths. Many of them are recognized world-class researchers and have achieved international stature in their respective specializations. They have been pursuing with vigor the highest standard of excellence in the strategic research areas of the department, while their research interests span wide spectra from some classical challenges to certain of today's most exciting engineering and management subjects. Their research outputs have both advanced the knowledge of their respective fields and benefited the practice of local and regional industries.

Systems Engineering and Engineering Management is a non-traditional engineering program, emphasizing an integration of engineering and management. The SEEM philosophy is to offer its students a well-rounded education so that they acquire both in-depth mastery of cutting-edge technical skills and a broad perspective on systems and management principles. Our undergraduate program that leads to Bachelor of Engineering in Systems Engineering and Engineering Management is currently organized around three focal areas: Business Information Systems; Financial Engineering; and Logistics and Supply Chain Management. At the graduate level, the department offers research-based programs leading to Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The department also offers course-based programs leading to the degree of Master of Science (M.Sc.) and it launched in 2004 in Shenzhen an Executive Master of Science Program in Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

All the SEEM undergraduate and postgraduate programs have maintained their selectivity and consistently attracted high-quality students. Scholarships have been offered to the very best of our students.

Finance, logistics, tourism and services for trade and industry are four pillars of Hong Kong's economy. Being the pioneer in Hong Kong with its educational and research programs focused on these areas, our program has positioned itself well to take this great opportunity and to meet the challenge for talents in this respect. Our graduates will be competitive globally, possessing vision and entrepreneurial spirit, and equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to be leaders in their fields. To fulfill our vision for our graduates, our program emphasizes an integration of technology and management.  This unique combination of in-depth skills, broad perspective and flexibility is much sought after in the job market. Training in systems engineering enables employability in various functional divisions and in all industries and government agencies, exposure to both technical and non-technical aspects of complicated systems and interdisciplinary problems, and career paths close to senior management.

The department is equipped with state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities that include
