The Joint Center for Intelligence Engineering (JCIE) was inaugurated in March, 1999 to foster the research partnership between Peking University (PKU) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
Amongst the various research areas, the JCIE Steering Committee has identified the special area of Speech and Language Processing to initiate collaboration between the two institutions.
The first project under JCIE is entitled "Intelligent Speech for Information Systems" (ISIS). Project ISIS aims to derive maximum synergy from the complementary capabilities of the two institutions. We refer specifically to the expertise in speaker verification and identification from PKU, as well as speech recognition spoken language understanding and speech generation from CUHK. We also refer to our collective experience in speech data collection.
