Abstract:

This talk gives an
overview of how operations research is applied to the planning and
operation phases for an airline. It discusses various challenges faced by
the airline in the strategic, tactic, and operational areas, and how people
use various OR techniques to model and provide recommendations to the
business units. Examples of topics covered are: strategic planning,
flight schedule and network generation, capacity planning, revenue and
profit forecasting, yield management, crew scheduling, airport
operations, and disruption handling. Lastly, we will discuss the
challenges ahead of OR practitioners in this field and some hot topics
people are pursuing.
