Wei Gao is currently a research assistant professor in the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Prior to this appointment, he was a research fellow in the Institute for Infocomm Research at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research in Singapore. He received his PhD in Information Systems from the same department of the university in 2010.

His research interests include information retrieval, natural language processing and Web data mining. He focused on cross-lingual query processing, relevance ranking, and cross-domain adaptation for Web search. He also worked on opinion mining and retrieval, machine transliteration of named entities, and is obsessed in a long run by machine translation. He published on ACM Transactions on Information Systems, SIGIR, ECIR, ACL, etc.
