M.Phil.-Ph.D. Programme

The Ph.D. programme in SEEM normally requires the candidate to hold a research-based Master degree in engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, or related areas. The M.Phil. programme in SEEM normally requires the candidate to hold a bachelor degree in engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, or related areas. Exceptional candidates with bachelor degree may apply directly to the Ph.D. Programme.
You may submit the score report of one of the following tests. The scores listed below are for reference only.
- TOEFL (not lower than 550 paper based, 213 computer based, and 79
internet based);
- GMAT (Verbal not lower than 21);
- College English Test (CET 6) of PRC (not lower than 430); or
- IELTS (not lower than Band 6.5);
All applicants must also fulfil the "English Language Proficiency Requirement" and "IT Proficiency Requirement" as stipulated by Graduate School Secretariat before being considered for admission. Please refer to the "Postgraduate Prospectus" of the Chinese University of Hong Kong for details. Application Procedures
The Ph.D. programme accepts applications for admission throughout the year. For the M.Phil. programme, applications may be made in December to February for admission in August each year. If you submit online application form, then you only mail the 2 - 7 items
documents to our office. You are required to submit the following application documents:
1. Completed paper application form or submit your Online Application (http://www2.cuhk.edu.hk/gss/apply.php);
2. Official Transcripts of academic records issued by your universities*;
3. Copy of degree certificate;
4. Documentary proof of fulfilling the English Language Proficiency
Requirement (e.g. CET, TOEFL);
5. Confidential recommendations from 2 referees*;
6 Receipt of application fee (no need to enclose if you submitted your
application online, and chose to pay the application fee by credit card. Please note that only International credit card is acceptable for payment via online application.);
7. Copy of your HKID card or other identity document;
