Undergraduate Programme Admission Criteria

According to the University regulations, applicants seeking admission to a course of study leading to a bachelor degree of the University shall have satisfied the minimum entrance requirements of the University and the programme concerned. Admission on the Strength of Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination Results

To satisfy the minimum University requirements for application, students are required to obtain:

1. In the same sitting of the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, Grade E or above in at least seven subjects which shall include two language subjects (Chinese Language, English Language, French, or German); and

2. In the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination, Grade E or above in Advanced Supplementary Level Chinese Language & Culture, in Advanced Supplementary Level Use of English, and in at least,
   (a) two Advanced Level subjects, or
   (b) one Advanced Level and two Advanced Supplementary Level subjects.
   

In addition, applicants for the Systems Engineering & Engineering Management programme shall satisfy the following additional requirements:

1. Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination Requirements:
   (a) Good grades in Mathematics or Additional Mathematics, and at least two other science subjects, and
   (b) Preferably good grades in Chinese Language and English Language.

2. Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination Requirements:
   Grade E or above in Advanced Level Pure Mathematics, or Advanced Level Applied Mathematics.

Applicants will be considered on the basis of the results they obtained in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination and the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination, and their academic and extracurricular achievements in school. If they are invited to attend an interview, their performance at the interview will also be taken into consideration.

Admission on the Strength of Qualifications other than Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination Results

For those who have the right of abode in Hong Kong or the right to land in Hong Kong (i.e. those who do not require a student visa to study in Hong Kong) are required to apply via the "Local Non-JUPAS Scheme".

Applicants shall be eligible to apply if they:
possess a qualification obtained outside Hong Kong which qualifies them for university admission in the country/region where such qualification is obtained* (e.g. SAT in USA, UEC / STPM in Malaysia, HSC / TER in Australia, OSSD in Canada); OR
have acquired an International Baccalaureate Diploma; OR
have obtained in one sitting of the GCE Advanced Level Examination pass grades in no less than three Advanced Level subjects (Applicants with pass grades in 2 Advanced Level and 2 Advanced Supplementary Level subjects may also apply); OR
have successfully completed:

• at least one year of full-time undergraduate study at a recognized university; OR

• a course of study leading to the qualification of an associate degree / higher diploma; OR

have other exceptional achievements which merit admission.

* Mainland students, who are current Gao Kao candidates「應屆高考生」, should apply through the National Colleges and Universities Enrolment System「全國普通高校統一招生計劃」 (please refer to www.cuhk.edu.hk/adm/mainland/ for details). Mainland students who hold overseas qualifications should apply through this Scheme.

In addition, applicants should have attained an acceptable level of proficiency in English.
