Systems
Engineering and Engineering Management is a non-traditional
engineering program, emphasizing an integration of engineering and
management. The SEEM philosophy is to offer its students a
well-rounded education so that they acquire both in-depth mastery of
cutting-edge technical skills and a broad perspective on systems and
management principles. Our undergraduate program that leads to
Bachelor of Engineering in Systems Engineering and Engineering
Management is currently organized around three streams:

Under
this program, you will first study a set of well-designed foundation
courses. After that, you will choose one of the four streams as
your specialty, and take the prescribed courses for your stream
accordingly. The idea is to offer you an engineering program at
the junction of technology and management. You not only study advanced
information systems technologies and quantitative decision methodologies,
but also receive basic training to enrich your perspective in investment,
management, and operations of enterprises of the 21st century.
Business Information Systems ¡X In
the knowledge-based economy of the new millennium, Business
Information Systems are at the core of any enterprise. The stream
in Business Information Systems offers courses on the fundamentals
in information systems analysis, design, and management. Students
can also explore the latest advances in multi-lingual speech
processing, artificial intelligence, data-mining and knowledge
engineering. Graduates are equipped with useful concepts and
techniques to analyze, design, and develop information systems for
business management and industrial applications.

Financial Engineering ¡X Hong Kong is
one of the major financial centers in the world. With the advent of
merging markets and round-the-clock trading, financial markets are
increasingly complex. This complexity has made investment and risk
analysis heavily rely on quantitative methods and information
technology. In this stream students learn fundamental finance
concepts, and obtain advanced training in quantitative techniques,
decision models and information systems technologies.
Logistics and Supply Chain
Management ¡X Globalization is a trend of today's enterprises.
To train talents to meet the needs of these enterprises, Logistics
and Supply Chain Management has recently become an important subject
offered in many leading universities in the world. By considering
and treating the whole operations process of an enterprise as an
integrated supply chain. In this stream, studies
focus on the co-ordination, sharing, and management of the material
flow, financial flow, and information flow during the whole process
of an enterprise's operations. Students will gain comprehensive
knowledge of the operations and management of a supply chain,
spanning from order acceptance, material sourcing, resource
allocation, production planning and manufacturing, to product
delivery and marketing. This specialization particularly fits Hong
Kong which has emerged as the regional centre for industrial
investment and management, and a major international hub of
logistics and transportation.

In your final year of study, you will be required
to complete a one-year project in your chosen area, under a close
supervision of one or more professors from our Department. This
project will allow you to apply what you have learnt to real-world
problems such as development of a real information system, in-depth
analysis of cases occurred in industrial and business operations,
study and development of modeling and quantitative decision methods
and techniques etc.

Finance,
logistics, tourism, and services for trade and industry are four
pillars of Hong Kong's economy. Being the pioneer in Hong Kong with
its educational and research programs focused on these areas, our
program has positioned itself well to take this great opportunity
and to meet the challenge for talents in this respect. Our graduates
will be competitive globally, possessing vision and entrepreneurial
spirit, and equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to be
leaders in their fields. To fulfill our vision for our graduates,
our program emphasizes an integration of technology and management.
This unique combination of in-depth skills, broad perspective and
flexibility is much sought after in the job market. In our
interaction with employers, we find that our graduates are quite
popular among them. All our graduates found
jobs soon after their graduation. Training in systems
engineering enables employability in various functional divisions
and in all industries and government agencies, exposure to both
technical and non-technical aspects of complicated systems and
interdisciplinary problems, and career paths close to senior
management.
