Our students have received the First Runner-Up Award at 2016 HKSQ Company Based Student Project Competition organized by the Hong Kong Society of Quality

A team of four SEEM students won the First Runner-up in the 2016 HKSQ Company Based Student Project Competition organized by the Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ). The purpose of the event is to provide an opportunity for students to work on an actual industrial case and propose solutions. This year, the competition was held at City University of Hong Kong on 12 Mar 2016.

The SEEM team worked on “Food Assembly Process Improvement” for the LSG Sky Chefs plants at Hong Kong International Airport. After a thorough analysis of data collected in January 2016, the SEEM team found different feasible solutions to improve both effectiveness and efficiency of their process.

The SEEM team is composed of Wong Kwun Tat, Eric(Team Leader), Wong Man Yee, Irene, Yuen Ki Hin, Harry, Yu Chi Fung, Derek, under the supervision of Professor CH Cheng. Ten teams from local tertiary institutions entered this year’s competition. The Champion went to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The Second Runner-Up was awarded to the University of Hong Kong.

Professor Helen Meng elected Distinguished Lecturer of the International Speech Communication Association (ISCA)

Professor Helen Meng was elected Distinguished Lecturer of the International Speech Communications Association (ISCA) in May 2015. ISCA promotes, in an international world-wide context, activities and exchanges in all fields related to speech communication science and technology. ISCA is aimed at all persons and institutions interested in fundamental research and technological development that aims at describing, explaining and reproducing the various aspects of human communication by speech, that covers, without assuming this enumeration to be exhaustive, phonetics, linguistics, computer speech recognition and synthesis, speech compression, speaker recognition, aids to medical diagnosis of voice pathologies. ISCA funds its elected Distinguished Lecturers to travel to different parts of the world to give lectures to help promote research activities on speech science and technologies.
