SEEM students triumphed in the finalist stage of China Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao Digital Economy Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2018. The team led by Mr. Stanley Ying (SEEM/5), consisting of Mr. Simon Wong (SEEM MPhil/2), Mr. Max Lam (SEEM MPhil/2), Mr. Carson Wah (CSE Msc/1), Ms. Kelly Chin (ECON/4) and Mr. Brandon Ma (MED/5) defeated 17 teams from universities in Mainland, Macau and Hong Kong and won Championship for their entrepreneurship project and technical showcase.

The competition hosted on an annual basis by China Council for the Promotion of the International Trade (CCPIT) invites student and young entrepreneur teams from all over China to demonstrate their creative business projects. Utilizing machine learning and natural language processing technologies to analyse news sources, summarize social mentions and gauge public sentiments, the CUHK team introduced a risk management and trading solution for digital currencies. Impressed by the technical maturity and the business concept, the team received the highest score among the finalist teams.
