中大微軟合創語音備忘系統
網上提醒重要事項視障者佳音

　　【明報專訊】相信不少人試過因航班延誤而苦等數小時﹔又或者預約求診，卻因無人提醒而忘記了。香港中文大學與微軟合作開發了一套「悠揚語音提示系統」，使用者可透過互聯網，設定需要提示的事項，如股票價格、各類交通工具抵達的時間、天氣等不斷變動的資訊，自動提醒使用者。

　　即將推出市場

　　中大系統工程及工程管理學系副教授蒙美玲，負責這項研究已有三年，配合微軟的新技術，本周才研發成功，即將推出市場。

　　她表示，除了語音提示功能外，系統更可將文字轉為聲音，供視障者使用，屆時視障者可利用此系統閱讀互聯網資訊。系統初步獲政府及香港盲人協會支持。蒙美玲指，若系統成功應用，生活上所有細節，都能透過系統將聲音化為文字，或將文字化為聲音，提供各種服務。

　　中大與微軟昨日簽訂協議，未來將加強人才培訓、研究及開發的合作。微軟公司並承諾，中大研究生可到中國的微軟亞洲研究所實習，人數不設上限，但需要通過嚴格篩選。

Tsan-Ming (Jason) Choi has received the Best Paper Award in ACM Postgraduate Research Paper Contest 2002. The paper’s title is “Optimal Pricing Policy for E-tailers under Dynamic Price Testing with Bayesian Information Updates”.

Professor Helen Meng has been awarded a grant of HKD5,656,000 from the Innovation and Technology Fund of the Hong Kong SAR Government Innovation and Technology Commission. The project is entitled “The AOPA (Author Once, Present Anywhere) Software Platform,” led by Professor Helen Meng (Principal Investigator) and Professor P. C. Ching (Co-Investigator). This project aims to develop a “universally accessible” software platform to support Chinese Web content development for (displayless) voice browsers, mobile mini-browsers in addition to regular Web browsers. Universal accessibility is valuable for E-business information service provision.

Professor Shuzhong Zhang has been awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award 2001. This award is awarded annually by the VC to one teacher in each Faculty.
